Concepts
Maia OS is being built as a fully open-source personal AI operating system and application platform. A person can run a Maia node, connect Desktop, native mobile, and CLI clients, and keep control of data and network. A self-hosted node needs no other service. There is no standalone web control application; the public site is presentation only.
Status
This page is a public summary. Accepted ADRs and repository specifications remain authoritative. A concept here is not evidence that the named behavior ships.
One node, one brain
A logical Maia node is one sovereignty domain. A personal node is the normal authority for one person. An organization node is the normal authority for one company. Clustering processes does not create several brains.
The headless node is the durable authority. Clients authenticate to it and keep cache-backed views. They are not a second source of truth.
Canonical product concepts
The public vocabulary is Project, Agent, Agent Session, Routine, message, Node, Swarm, Connection, and operation. CLI, the minimal attachment TUI, voice, desktop, mobile, and site are replaceable client surfaces over one Node. They are not separate backends, harnesses, or sources of truth.
Desktop is the first graphical product: a Tauri macOS shell hosts the shared Expo renderer as one voice-first cockpit with a 2D Swarm Canvas. Native Expo iOS and Android clients follow from the same source and contracts. Expo Go is not release evidence.
Foundation chain
Product work lands in this order:
maia-node- versioned protocol
@maiaos/sdk- built JSON
maiaCLI - a real scenario with evidence
This public site is presentation only. It is not on that chain.
Status vocabulary
These labels are the AGENTS.md vocabulary. This site does not invent a sixth label.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Implemented | Shipped through the documented public surface and covered by release gates |
| Source-implemented candidate | Code exists but is unavailable until named qualification gates pass |
| Planned | Accepted or proposed target; no implementation claim |
| Unsupported | Deliberately unavailable for the named version/platform/capability |
| Deprecated | Still compatible for a bounded period with a documented replacement and removal condition |
No current public surface on this site is implemented. Callable CLI and node foundations are source-implemented candidates with current executable evidence. That evidence is not product enablement. Deprecated is unused on this host.
What is not enabled
Skills, Routines, Swarm orchestration, voice, remote Execution Nodes, desktop/mobile parity, the target attachment TUI, and the complete live observability contract are not currently enabled release behavior.
See Getting started, Node, Protocol, SDK, the CLI notes, and Product Surfaces. The target client contract is the Desktop and mobile architecture. Canonical repository rules live in AGENTS.md. CLI authority lives in the CLI README and the apps README.
